Baby boom at Glide

Taking a break from our regular thoughts and musings on the goings on in the digital world, I’m delighted to announce that the Glide family has grown this week.  Shona, Tom and Alistair all welcomed new additions to their families this week – a first for Shona and Tom and a second for Alistair.

That just leaves Terri….come on baby Watts!

Driving home for Christmas???

Er, not so sure at this rate.  In my north London bubble, I’m wondering what all the fuss is about.  Sure it’s cold but there’s not a lick of snow on the ground.  A quick peak at the news tells a different story.

The infrastructure of Europe has ground to a halt (temperatures of -33C have been recorded in some parts of Germany) and the US has had one of the worst storms in decades (1ft of snow in New York and 2ft in Washington).  With more snow for the UK forecast,  I’m wondering what my chances are of making it across the border for Christmas.

The champions league draw…an act of fate or an act of publicity?

Having just read the draw for the next round of the UEFA Champions league, I can’t help but come over a little cynical about the result.

I mean come on, Chelsea get Inter, sure to be billed as ‘The Return of The Chosen One’ and Manchester United get AC Milan, sure to be billed as ‘The Return of the Prodigal Son’.  Can it really just be coincidence or are there more sinister forces at work.  From all the possible permutations, these two combinations are surely the most marketable and definitely the one’s to watch.

What will I do with my Saturday’s now??

What will become of my Saturday nights? Sunday’s too won’t be the same.  They were beginning to feel like Saturday’s; home cooked dinner, nice bottle of red, Xfactor.

With Geordie crooner Joe crowned Xfactor king (despite my multiple votes for the shoe shuffler from Essex), what to plan my weekend around now?

Let’s see….mad, patience testing, spending vast amounts of cash on others, Christmas shopping round Oxford Street?  Great.  Extra sessions down the gym followed by some more recall training for Cooper (well, he does need it).  Gym, at the weekend?  Are you mad? (don’t answer).

Oh well, it would seem there’s nothing for it.  It’s back to getting out of the house of a Saturday evening and socialising I suppose.  Lovely, and just in time for the ‘cold spell’.

Family matters

At the grand old age of 38, I sometimes feel a bit like an old fuddy duddy here in the office, surrounded by our young, dynamic team.

My colleagues come into the office in the morning with stories of concerts they’ve been to, new gym classes they’ve discovered, reports on the latest trendy bars and even what famous faces were at a Trekkie convention.  I reply with tales of watching ‘In the night garden’, never-ending tiredness, child-interrupted sleep and dirty nappies.

However, I’m just about to get my own back!  There is a baby boom in the office – several of our crowd are happily expecting their first child, and a second is on the way for Alistair.  We’ll soon be expanding the office to include a crèche!

Exciting times ahead guys!

Hello, and welcome to the Glide blog

A bit of background on Glide

In January 2010 Glide will be seven years old. It’s been quite a journey since the days when three of us were squashed into a small office in Ladbroke Grove.  We’re now a team of 30+ happily settled in our Shoreditch office.

Back when we started in 2003, my job was pretty evangelical. Talking about online media centres and PR software wasn’t exactly top of most Comms Directors’ agendas and I spent a lot of time selling the need as well as our nascent product.

Today of course things are very different. It’s rare to meet a PR now who doesn’t acknowledge the importance of online content creation, effective targeting and precision analytics.  Blogs and social media have also changed the media landscape for good and the most exciting thing is that there is a lot more change to come.

Innovation is part of our ethos so this year we’ve launched a range of Glide features, including social media share tools, streaming video, B-Roll hosting and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) best practice tools. We’ve also just launched GlideInsight, our real-time market research tool.

2010 will also see us bring some pretty special tools to the market – but more about that another time!

On to the blog

We wanted our blog to be something everyone in the company owned, so you’ll notice posts from a number of contributors from all corners of the business, ranging from serious to conversational.

If you’re thinking of working for Glide or hiring us, you should be able to get a feel for what kind of people we are, which, in my opinion is vital for either decision.

Enjoy the blog and come back soon.
