Hi Adam,

Yes, that's why I don't think it's fair to be too hard on on the teams that do some of these sites. What people in smaller companies or external agencies don't always realise is just how hard it can be to get anything done online when you work in a large company. PR teams also often get left with scraps, in terms of budget, to do anything with their part of the website. Shame really, as a good social newsroom can be so beneficial for a business beyond just media relations.

Hi Alistair,

Yes I agree that many sites slap the word 'social' onto their press office, when in fact they have just added a share button. However, I know how slow some big companies can be on the road to becoming a social business - its tough for some of them. So I see the social media press office (even if it is bit lightweight) as a positive step. They can then add in further functionality over time.

A reply to Steve Jobs letter from the co-creator of Flash Johnathan Gay..http://bit.ly/cB0HlA

Interesting that Macromedia found H.264 too expensive so opted for Flash but that he doesn't think most Flash content on the web would work well on the iPhone due to its size. Will this limitation of the Apple products push people into the arms of the Android? Time will tell.

Right now, one of the most annoying things about this whole debate for me is the lack of access to services like 4-on-demand. If I want to watch Peep Show in bed, on my iPhone, I have to use iTunes which costs money!

It's an interesting development but couple of observations:
1. It makes no difference to Murdoch's paywall plans because newspaper owners are still permitted to block spiders (e.g. robots.txt, ACAP).
2. The proposed legislation only refers to usage by search engines, inferring that it will not apply to content aggregators. Unlikely, therefore, to have any bearing on the ongoing NLA/Meltwater case http://bit.ly/7rXw5o
